Kathy Rooney’s digital, innovative illustration style is best described as vintage with modern appeal. Her freelance business took off in 2002 when she was commissioned by the Pittsburgh Steelers to create a 62 ft. x 13 ft. mural depicting a panorama of Pittsburgh and it’s past & present sports venues. For over 10 years The Mural, a favorite among Steelers fans everywhere, is still displayed at the Pittsburgh Steelers Practice Facility and continues to sell as replica prints nationwide. Kathy also creates cityscape campus maps for Duquesne University and Point Park University which can be seen as murals throughout both campuses. Additionally, Kathy has created & researched 11 historic illustrations for the PBS science documentary film, UNDAUNTED, The Forgotten Giants of the Allegheny Observatory.
Kathy’s work continues at the forefront of the digital illustration movement in the region. Along with her innovative illustration style, her broad spectrum background includes graphic design and project management. She is a dedicated full time artist and a business partner with her artist husband, Ray Sokolowski. Together they formed Rooney and Ray Arts, Inc. in 2000 to satisfy the art needs of corporations looking for inspirational, visual branding. Their merger of talent has provided a myriad of artworks and effective communication solutions.
Kathy is a Board Member of the Pittsburgh Society of Illustrators.
