"Scribbles: PSI's Home Run" - by Patricia Sheridan

1/14/02 Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

The grays and browns of this Western Pennsylvania winter were temporarily washed away Friday night by colorful illustrations of the boys of summer. The opening reception for the Pittsburgh Society of Illustrators' exhibit "Play Ball" drew nearly 300 visitors to the Art Institute of Pittsburgh to check out the collection of baseball art. Hot dogs and nachos helped evoke the mood as guests mingled and marveled. Among them were PSI president Fred Carlson, exhibit coordinator and illustrator Jim Mellett, illustrators Kathy Rooney, Rick Antolic and Christie Strub, AIP president George Pry, Michael Malle and Josh Gibson, namesake of his grandfather, the famous Homestead Grays player. The show will be on display until Feb. 22, when it will move to the Mall at Robinson.
